Zuni Peublo Sterling Silver Carved Turquoise Lizard Ring Size 6.5

The Zunis are very well known for their stone carving and inlay jewelry work and their jewelry dates back to Ancestral Pueblo times, roughly AD 100 to 1600.

Using materials such as turquoise, jet, spiny oyster and abalone, and then silver starting in the 1800s, Zuni lapidaries would carve, polish and inlay the stones next to each other or with lines of silver separating the stones.  In the early 1900s the Zunis also became known for their tiny creations in needlepoint and petit turquoise cluster creations to appeal to the then booming tourist industry.

This is a large carved turquoise lizard set in a sterling silver ring.

Measured on a ring sizer, US size 6.5.
5mm wide band at the back.
The turquoise stone lizard is approximately 21mm high, 13mm wide and 14mm thick. The whole ring face including the silver is 24mm thick.
9.9 grams total weight.

Very minor signs of wear and tarnish.
Any imperfections seem in the stone and making.
