Using a plastic material patented by Dr. Leo Bakeland, bakelite jewelry was produced during the Art Deco period, around 1910 until the 1940s.
Bakelite was durable, vibrant and affordable jewelry that anyone could own and was popular for earrings, artistic brooches and chunky, sometimes elaborate bangle bracelets. Bakelite jewelry has become highly collectible signifying such a staple in the art deco jewelry era.
