Genuine Murano jewelry is of the most treasured in Venetian art glass jewelry with a rich and fascinating history.
Late in the 13th century, the government of Venice ordered all glass making factories to cease operations out of fear of fire to their primarily wooden infrastructure. The glass making industry relocated to the island of Murano, and this island became world renowned for its glass making artistry including in the jewelry produced. Artisans were under strict restrictions, including time away from the island, in order to protect the secrets of their coveted glass making techniques. Using the purest of glass, hand blown, hand poured and faceted glass beads create truly beautiful and one of a kind pieces.
This is a single strand necklace with knotted glass beads; varying shades of frosted blues and white spiral design.
The necklace measures 28" long.
The blown glass beads are between 9-11mm diameter.
