PRODUCT DETAILS

The Zunis are very well known for their stone carving, particularly fetish carvings and beads, and inlay jewelry work and their jewelry dates back to Ancestral Pueblo times, roughly AD 100 to 1600.

Using materials such as turquoise, jet, spiny oyster and abalone, and then silver starting in the 1800s, Zuni lapidaries would carve, polish and inlay the stones next to each other or with lines of silver separating the stones.  In the early 1900s the Zunis also became known for their tiny creations in needlepoint and petit turquoise cluster creations to appeal to the then booming tourist industry.
